Uncovering the Library’s Hipster Phenomenon

What is a “hipster”?

Recently it has been brought to our attention that our staff seems to be comprised largely of hipsters.

Is it a demeanor, a fashion sense, a state of being?

The Hipster Handbook by Robert Latham defines hipster as “one who possesses tastes, social attitudes, and opinions deemed cool by the cool. The Hipster walks among the masses in daily life but is not a part of them and shuns or reduces to kitsch anything held dear by the mainstream.” “Hipsters” are not confined by labels though, and the definition is ever-changing.

We, the staff, pose this question to you, our library patrons. Are we hipsters?

To aid in your decision we recommend The Hipster’s Handbook. Come pay us a visit and check out a copy!
